I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for the New Jersey Assembly in Legislative District 39, alongside my running mate, Demarest Councilman David Jiang. For my entire adult life, I have proudly served as a public servant—first in law enforcement in Jersey City, where I currently serve as a Police Sergeant, and in local government in Dumont, as both a Councilman and Mayor.
These experiences have equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of public safety, governance, and the needs of our communities. As a law enforcement professional, I bring a much-needed, credible voice to discussions on policies surrounding public safety, criminal justice reform, and robust support for our first responders. These are critical areas where experienced leadership is not just necessary, but long overdue in our State Legislature.
I am excited to embark on this journey alongside Mayor Steven Fulop for Governor and Councilman David Jiang. It’s time for common-sense solutions in Trenton, and together, we can put New Jersey on the right track. I hope you’ll join us in this important mission to bring real change to our state.

Andrew (43) is married to Meghan LaBruno and has two children, Jack and Ava. He is bi-racial and of Puerto Rican and Italian heritage. Andrew was born and raised in Jersey City, where he became a police officer and ultimately a Police Sergeant. He is currently assigned to the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management which is planning, coordinating, and executing response efforts during emergencies and disasters, including preparing for potential hazards, developing response strategies, training personnel, and managing recovery operations after an event occurs.
In his early life, Andrew's mother, Diana LaBruno, passed away when he was only sixteen years old, leaving him to assist his father with raising his younger brother. Due to this tragic loss, Andrew shifted his ambition of studying fine arts and began working for the Jersey City Police Department at 18 while attending New Jersey City University. Finding interest in law enforcement, Andrew strived to become a police officer, and in 2005, Andrew attended the John H. Stamler police academy and became a Jersey City Police Officer.
Andrew moved to Dumont with his wife Meghan in 2009, soon after Meghan gave birth to their first child, Jack. Through the years, Andrew became involved in coaching with Dumont Recreation sports. In 2015, Meghan gave birth to their second child, Ava. In 2016, Andrew founded the Dumont Community Group, a 501C3 non-profit organization to bring a positive change to Dumont through community events. DCG re-established the Dumont 5K, Movies in the Park, the first town-wide garage sale, and assisted in Borough events such as Dumont Day.
Andrew's commitment to the Borough of Dumont grew, and so did his interest in moving his town in a positive direction. Andrew has worked in municipal government his entire adult life and believed his institutional knowledge of its operation and experience as first responder would benefit his town government. Andrew was elected to the Borough Council in 2018 and as Mayor in 2019, where he started his term on January 1, 2020 - December 31st, 2023.
Andrew is a third-generation union worker, and his parents were both union members. Andrew is committed to working families and his unionized brother and sisters in all fields, especially labor trades, fellow first responders, and teachers. Andrew is also a former Union Leader where he served as President of the Jersey City Police Superior Officers' Association.
As a husband, father, public figure, and first responder, Andrew is committed to his family, town, and his brother and sisters in law enforcement. He strives for the very best and gives it his all.
